Orchard Hot Pads in "One Room Schoolhouse"

I absolutely love vintage inspired fabrics so I was so thrilled to get a stack of prints from the soon to be available line by Brenda Ratliff, "One Room Schoolhouse" designed for RJR Fabrics.

The palette is fresh with a vintage vibe.  The prints are gorgeous.  My favorite is the sweet apple print.  I think I might have to make a skirt in this print - so cute!!!

I stitched up my orchard hot pads and I think they look wonderful in this fabric!

You can find the pattern [HERE].  "One Room Schoolhouse" will be available in July and you can find it [HERE]

Happy Sewing!

Orchard Hot Pads for Quilt Market

Quilt Market was last weekend.  It is a fabric show for fabric companies and pattern companies
to share their latest collections.   RJR fabrics asked me to create my Orchard Hot Pads for Quilt Market.  I used the new fabric line called "In the Kitchen" by Patrick Lose.

The fabrics are perfect for the hot pads.  My favorite print includes all the kitchen supplies and is perfect for fussy cutting the patchwork squares.

I have added a few paper patterns for the Orchard Hot Pads to my Etsy shop.
The pattern includes a color booklet and full size pattern pages.

Happy Sewing!

A Pair ~ and a Pear : )

A few years ago I designed the Apple Orchard hot pad.
It is a great project to use those precious scraps you have been saving.
Mine includes some of my favorite scraps that I have been saving for just the right project.

I have been planning on creating a pear to go with the apple for a very long time and it is finally done.

It is an easy make and a great way to learn an easy way to apply bias tape.  The same method as I used in my round potholder tutorial you can find [HERE]

It seemed like a perfect time to create the pear as Fall has arrived.
I will be sure and post when the pattern is complete and post a little give away : )

I have been getting into a routine after a lovely but not very structured summer.
My boys are finally in school after a week long teacher's strike.  As frustrating as the strike was, I am a staunch supporter of our teachers and am happy they negotiated a good contract for the next few years.  They deserve it for all their had work and dedication.
As a classroom volunteer, I am always amazed at their grace and composure teaching a classroom of 25 - 30 kids!

You will be hearing from me a lot more
now that I have dedicated time to work on projects and share them with you : )

Happy Sewing

Mother's Day Gifts To Stitch!

Mothers day is just around the corner - May 11th to be exact : )
Which means you still have time to make a gift for your mom.
This post is dedicated to some lovely projects to make if you are in need of
some ideas for Mother's Day gift giving!
All links are provided below.

Hot Pads are a useful and fun gift if your mom likes to cook.
I created the round potholder from a few block patterns in my Etsy shop but you can just as easily use an orphaned quilt block and reuse a project that has been in your stash!
You can find the tutorial [HERE].

The apple potholder is a fun gift.  It us a perfect project to use some favorite scraps.
It would also be lovely in Granny Apple Green, Pink Lady Pink or Golden Delicious Yellow!

A tote bag is always a fun and useful gift!  My tulip tote is perfect for this time of year!  You can find the pattern for the tulip block and tote bag [here].
If you are looking for a simpler tote bag to adorn with the tulip, you can find some free tutorials Here, Here and another Here.

Another simple and fun project is my Ruffled Clutch I designed for Liberty Craft Blog.
Wouldn't it be lovely in natural linen too?

A frame pouch is always a useful gift.  I made the apple pouch with my free apple paper pieced pattern you can find [here].  The tutorial for the frame pouch can be found [here].
Fill it with some sweets or sewing notions!

Or use the pattern to make coasters.....

or hot pads!

There is nothing as lovely as lavender sachets for your clothing bureau.  You can find the pattern for my house sachets here.

A pretty cushion is always a welcome gift.  I seem to not have enough in my house : )
This one is made with my Rose Dream pattern you can find [here].

And this one is made with the Crown of Thorns pattern you can find [here].

Happy Creating!

Gift Sewing and a New Pattern - Orchard Hot Pad!

I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving - my friends in the US!
Christmas gift sewing has started at the Randell house.  I created this Apple potholder pattern some time ago and I am sewing a few for gifts.
The pattern is easy to make and is a great holiday gift for friends and family who love to cook with fun kitchen accessories!
It is available in my Etsy Shop.

The front left side of the apple is pieced and quilted.

The back has quilted pockets.

And I used some of my favorite text fabrics and a few vintage fabrics!

I'm excited to use the new Pam Kitty morning text print for my next hot pad which you can find at Sew Me a Song!

I'm working on a companion apron and another fruit hot pad for the orchard.  We will see if I get them done in time for Christmas  : )   Thank goodness mom does not have a computer!

Happy Sewing!
