Sweet projects with Mary Catherine Fabric

Hi! I had the pleasure of working with the new line of fabric – “Mary Catherine” designed by Amy Smart, aka Diary of a Quilter.

The line includes sweet florals, geometrics, an adorable bow print, and the perfect tiny gingham in beautiful shades of blush, brick red, sky blue, green and navy.

Curved Tote and Ruffle Zipper Pouch designed by Charise Creates

The fabrics are so adorable, I just had to make multiple projects. The first project is my Ruffle Zipper Pouch/ Cross Body pouch.

A Sweet EPP (English Paper Pieced) flower adorns one side of the pouch, which is accentuated by 1/4″ echo quilting. The Flower pattern is The 1″ Hexagon Flower from Sue Daly Designs.

The Pouch includes tabs to add a removable strap, so the pouch can be used as a petite cross body bag.

The opposite side of the pouch features my Vintage Sewing Machine Pattern. My Featherweight circa 1964 is the inspiration for this pattern.

I also made a petite snap pouch which fits earbuds / headphones which I lose all the time! : )

The Ruffle Pouch is designed for your favorite 6″ block or you can use a favorite print.

I love the little bow on the thread spool : )

Charise Creates Curved Tote

The Curved Tote is a free pattern on my blog. I thought if would be the perfect project for “Mary Catherine” fabric paired with Bec at Sew Be’s Sadie’s Quilt Pattern.

The tote bag finishes at 12″ square so I enlarged the pattern templates from Sadie’s quilt pattern by 133%. It makes the perfect 12″ finished block.

I made a modification to the Curved Tote as well. The gusset measurement was changed to 35″ long instead of 33 1/2″ long to compensate for the smaller curve at the bottom corners.

I had fun rummaging through my vintage button stash to find the perfect closure!

I hope you make a project with Mary Catherine Fabric.

I had the pleasure of working with the new line of fabric from Poppie Cotton - "Flower Market" designed by Elea Lutz.

The line is a lovely combination of florals both large and small scale in a beautiful palette of red, pink, blue, yellow and green.

My Gingham Tulip quilt seemed the perfect fabric for this lovely line of fabric.

The pattern is in works but will be available soon!

Summer Skies and Fireflies - Posy Purse and Citrus Pouch

Posy Purse and Citrus Pouch

Today I am sharing my latest projects – my Citrus Pouch and Posy Purse, with the new line of fabric “Summer Skies and Fireflies” designed by Gracey Larson of Burlap and Blossoms

As described by Gracey- “This collection was inspired by nostalgic, warm, summer afternoons where cares seem to melt away and life feels simple. I wanted to design a fabric collection that would represent the simple things that stay the same in an ever-changing world: feelings of home, the sun coming up every morning, and fireflies dancing when the crickets start to sing at dusk. “

I absolutely love this line of fabric. The prints are adorable and the colors are the most yummy shades that are reminiscent of the colors of sorbet! These fabrics are pure sunshine!

What better project than a citrus pouch that showcase all the beautiful prints?

I chose a palette of lemon yellow, pink grapefruit, and lime green to make a trio of my Citrus Pouch. They are so sweet and summer!

Gingham zippers can be found at Sunny Day Supply. I love how they coordinate with the fabrics.

Posy Purse

The Posy Purse is a new version of my Modern Hexagon Purse that I created a decade ago! I used a Summery combination of yellow and turquoise which is the epitome of Summer – blue skies and sunshine! An appliquéd hexagon was used for the fun little flower center.

The Posy Purse is a fun make and a perfect sized purse or small tote to carry all your essentials. Instruction are included for making you own handles!

Ice Cream Cone Zipper Pouch and Curvy Basket in Bee Basics

Ice Cream Cone Zipper Pouch Pattern

Hi!  Today I'm sharing my makes with the adorable Basics fabrics - Bee Vintage, Bee Dots and Bee Ginghams designed by Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs.

Ice Cream Cone Zipper Pouch Pattern

Riley Blake has so many adorable Basics Fabrics! I had fun choosing some for my newest pattern – my Ice Cream Cone Zipper Pouch. The pattern comes in two sizes. The pattern is an Advanced Beginner / Intermediate pattern that you can make in a day

Find the Ice Cream Cone Zipper Pouch Pattern HERE

Curvy Basket Pattern

I also made a basket to hold goodies in my sewing room. Having cute organizing solutions in my sewing room is a must!

The basket was made with Bee Vintage’s Cheater print. The cheater print is adorable, and if you want to make this project quickly it is the perfect choice! No piecing required!

I used Riley 1/8″ gingham for the piping and bias trim which coordinates perfectly with the Bee Vintage Cheater Print.

Find the Curvy Basket Pattern HERE

The Ice Cream Cone pouch is so much fun to make! Choosing fabrics is my favorite part of the project. I used the following fabrics for the smaller cones pictured:

Bee Basics Fabrics:

Left- Ice Cream Fabric is Bee Vintage Nettie Cottage (the cone fabric is no longer available but Bee Ginghams Cassidy Tea Dye is a great substitute!)

Right – Ice Cream Fabric is Bee Vintage Lizzie Beehive and the Cone fabric is Bee Ginghams Cassidy Tea Dye

For the large Ice Cream Cone in the center, I used Bee Vintage Mable Frosting for the ice cream, for the scallops I used Bee Ginghams Kassidy Coral, and for the cone I used Bee Dots Verona Cider.

Wildwood Dwelling Hexagon Quilt

Hi!  I had the pleasure of working with the new line of fabric from Poppie Cotton - "Wildwood Dwelling" designed by @sheri.mcculley

The line features the most adorable woodland creatures print as well as beautiful florals in a muted palette of turquoise, pink, salmon and yellow.

When searching for just the right project, I remembered taking a workshop from Sew Katie Did to make a hexagon quilt pieced by machine.
I thought a hexagon quilt would be the perfect project for showcasing all the adorable prints.

Red Pepper Quilts has a great tutorial on how to sew hexagons by machine  which you can find HERE

I purchased a hexagon template from Stated Woods Supply on Etsy.  I chose the 6" size but they have many sizes available depending on your desired design.
You can find the ruler HERE

I opted for a Grandmother's Flower Garden design and used gingham for the center of the flowers.

I chose a layout that positions the flowers next to each other.

This layout is a more traditional Flower Garden quilt - but the possibilities are endless!

I hope you choose to make a project with Wildwood Dwelling!

Happy Sewing!

Ruffle Pillows with Americana Fabric

Hi!  Today I am sharing the latest projects I made with the new line of fabric “Americana” designed by Lori Holt.

Americana is a patriotic themed fabric in red, pink, yellow and blue with a nod to vintage feedsack style prints including florals and geometrics.

I designed a new quilting block – Florette – which uses both curved piecing and appliqué. The Florette Block is 12″ square.

I thought the Florette Block would be a perfect as a center piece for a sweet ruffle pillow. The finished size of the pillow is 16″ but can be customized to the size you need.

My Florette Pillow needed a friend, so I made a simple patchwork pillow using my favorite color combo of pink and yellow, and I love how Springy it looks!

You can find a tutorial for making a ruffle pillow Here at Polka Dot Chair.

I hope you choose to make a project with Americana Fabric!
