Hope Blooms

Welcome to my stop on the Fat Quarter Shop's Top Ten Videos of 2015.
Today I'm sharing the Hope Blooms Quilt Block.
I love log cabin blocks and the video from Fat Quarter Shop ensures your log cabin blocks will be perfectly square!  The video shows how to make the 8 1/2" log cabin using the Creative Grids Log Cabin Trim Ruler.  I seriously love this ruler!
If you want to make the quilt, you can find the pattern HERE.
My favorite part of any new sewing project is picking out the fabric.  I was inspired by this Fat Quarter Shop bloggers bundle from Quilt Jane.  I love the coral pink, turquoise and grey combo.
I chose to use predominately coral pink and grey for my blocks.  You can see some Paperie by Art Gallery Fabrics and Lakehouse Favorites that I used in the blocks.
I decided to make a pillow with four squares and grey dot sashing from Lakehouse.  I love how it turned out and you can never have too many pretty pillows : )
Next project is a full size quilt to match the pillow!
If you’re on Instagram, use the hashtag #hopebloomsquilt to share your Hope Blooms Quilt Project and #FQSTop10 for a chance to win a Fat Quarter Shop $100 Gift Certificate.
The contest ends January 31, 2016 and the winner will be announced on Instagram February 1, 2016.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Fall is in full swing here and the leaves are turning beautiful shades of yellow and orange  : )
The knitting bug never fails to bite me this time of year!

couldn't resist trying the pattern you see above which I found in Mollie Makes issue 44.  The cowl is from the book "Scarves and Cowls" and I immediately ordered the book.  All the projects are adorable and I can't wait to finish this one so I can begin another!

The log cabin block on the left was made for a friend and of course I got the log cabin sewing bug, too!

The little cottage in the center of the log cabin block is from my Mini Cottage pattern.

Which inspired me to start another project.  The blocks shown above are the beginning of yet another quilt - yikes : )  I love the scrappy look and seeing the pattern emerge.

My projects for the Patchwork Patterns 318 blog hop are well underway.  I can't wait to share them with you on November 3rd!

Mayhem, Free Piecing and a New Beginning

I know the title of my blog post sounds pretty random but that has been the state of my life in the last 24 hours.
I was up late last night, way too late, working on a free pieced block.  It was such a much needed break from the more precise work I've been doing.  My table ended up looking like this:
It did result in this fun block.  I love making log cabin blocks.  Picking fabrics is the most satisfying!
The pear in the middle is paper pieced.  A block I made a while ago.  Thought it would be fun as the focal point of the block!

So my youngest son started Kindergarten today- hence the New Beginning.  Oh my goodness, I was not expecting the reaction I had - I actually cried!!!  I wasn't expecting to feel that way....I thought I was ready for him to go off into the big wide world!  I think he is ready, but it is just such a big step in his young life.  He is a very busy and energetic little guy which adds to my stress.  Will he be able to sit still?  Will he listen and behave?  Most important - will he like school?  Ugh........I'm sure all will be well when I pick him up in three hours but I can't help but worry......

There he is, among that sea of little heads.  I love him so much......

Have a lovely day!
