Bella Skill Builder - Block 9 Lazy Angle

It is time for the last block in the Bella Skill Builder Sew Along designed by Sherri McConnell of a Quilting Life and hosted by Fat Quarter Shop.

This month's block is called Lazy Angle.  It is a fun pinwheel style block and easy to put together and incredibly easy with this handy dandy ruler.

I couldn't resist making a version of this block with a print background : )

It is hard to believe that this quilt along started 9 months ago!  How time flies!

Bella Skill Builder - Block 8 Starburst

I can't believe it is September already!

The summer has flown by!

Bella Skill Builder ~ Month 7

It is time to share the newest block for the Bella Skill Builder Sew Along hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop and designed by Sherri McConnell of a Quilting Life.

I just happened to be hanging clothes on the line today and thought it would be a perfect way to share the block I made for this month.

There are two block patterns this month and they both use half and quarter square triangles.  Fat Quarter Shop send me [this] handy dandy little ruler that makes the task of creating half square triangles easy peasy : )

I love how this blocks works with the others in the series.

Bella Skill Builder ~ Courthouse Steps

Happy July to you!

Summer is in full swing here in the Pacific Northwest and I am loving it.

It is the 1st of July and time to share my latest block in the Bella Skill Builder Sew Along hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop.  Click on the link for the free pattern and all the Sew Along details.

This month I am sharing my Courthouse Steps blocks which is a variation of the Log Cabin Block.

I love this block!  It is fairly quick to sew together and this handy little ruler makes the process even easier!

Bella Skill Builder ~ Half Square Triangles

Today is the reveal for the fifth block in the Bella Skill Builder Sew Along hosted by The Fat Quarter Shop.  The lovely quilt is designed by Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life.

This month the block consists of half square triangles.

I decided to do an ombre effect for my half square triangle block and I love it!

Bella Skill Builder ~ Flying Geese

Happy May Day to you!

I can't believe it is already May ~ the days seem to fly by!

Today is the reveal for the fourth block in the Bella Skill Builder Sew Along hosted by The Fat Quarter Shop.  The lovely quilt is designed by Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life.

Though I have always admired Flying Geese blocks, I have never sewn one!

Well, after using the "Quilt in a Day" flying geese ruler, I am hooked.

There is definitely a flying geese quilt in my future.

The ruler is brilliant and makes the blocks so easy to stitch up.  

I think it took me a little over an hour to make the three units you see above.

I chose the sunny yellow with ivory background for these blocks.  The simplicity is so refreshing.

And yellow just happens to be my favorite color.

Bella Skill Builder ~ Orange Peel

Hi!  Can you believe it is already March?  The year is flying by and I am ready for Spring : )

Today I am sharing the latest block in the Bella Skill Builder hosted by Fat Quarter Shop ~ Orange Peel. 

Fat Quarter Shop has a nifty Orange Peel template which you can find [HERE]  

I chose to do a turned edge appliqué.  No raw edges for me.

  

I started making my petals by using hand appliqué but then saw these gorgeous petals made by Amy Sinabaldi.

She cuts the petals 3/8" larger than the templates and then carefully irons the seam allowance around the template. You can see her petals and the explanation [HERE]

I am continuing with my pink lemonade palette which has been so fun and refreshing to work with!

So far, my blocks are playing nicely together : )

Bella Skill Builder - Kaleidoscope

Hello and thanks for stopping by.

I am excited to be sewing along with the Fat Quarter Shop for the Bella Skill Builder.

Fat Quarter Shop is hosting a sew along complete with free patterns and instructions to make a beautiful sampler quilt!

I love a good sampler quilt and am excited to be a part of this one.

The first month consists of two kaleidoscope blocks both measuring 12 1/2".

I chose a "Pink Lemonade" Palette consisting of summery yellows, coral pinks and red 

from Moda Bella Solids.

Fat Quarter shop is sharing the free blocks on their blog.

Patterns will be available from February 2017 to November 2017.

Playing with Kaleidoscopes

Happy Friday.

Starting on the first of February, I will be joining a sew along.

I can't wait to share a new block with you each month until November.

It is a perfect skill builder and there will be a finished quilt at the end.

In preparation for the sew along, I have been playing with fabric combos for Kaleidoscope blocks.  I love making these!

I chose an aqua and blue palette with a little red thrown in, and some fun Cotton and Steel Prints that are perfect for fussy cutting.
